He is also a Member of the Hellenic Parliament. As Minister of Economy and Finance, he is responsible for shaping Greece's economic and fiscal policy, fostering sustainable economic growth, and representing Greece in European and international financial institutions. His priorities include ensuring Greece's macroeconomic stability, advancing structural reforms, and optimizing public financial management.

From 2023 to 2025, Pierrakakis served as Minister of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports, where he led major legislative reforms to modernize Greece's education system. He also developed the Gov.gr Wallet app for digital IDs and driving licenses, and the MyHealth app for digital healthcare records.

His contributions to digital governance earned him an honorary award from the British Computer Society and recognition as Chair of the OECD's Global Strategy Group in 2021, a role he resumed in 2024. In this capacity, he led a forum of senior officials working to shape the organization's strategic response to global challenges and fostered enhanced cooperation among OECD member states.
