
Jörg Kukies
Dr Jörg Kukies is a German economist and politician affiliated with the Social Democratic Party (SPD). He has been serving as the German Federal Minister of Finance since 7 November 2024. Prior to this role, he served as Secretary of State of the Chancellery from 2021 to 2024 and Secretary of State of Finance from 2018 to 2021.
Before embarking on his political career, Dr Kukies spent 17 years at the investment bank Goldman Sachs. He joined as an Associate in 2001, subsequently working as Head of the equities division for Germany and Austria from 2004 to 2011, and equity derivatives for EMEA from 2011 to 2014. He later served as Co-CEO and Managing Director of the Frankfurt branch from 2014 to 2018.
Dr Kukies holds a PhD in finance from the University of Chicago and a Master’s degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
